PBIS

What is PBIS?

PBIS

PBIS is a proactive systems approach to establishing the behavorial supports for all scholars in the school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. PBIS establishes a three tiered system of support, and a problem-solving process to enhance the capacity of schools to effectively educate all scholars.

The Balmoral staff believes that schools can only be successful when they help scholars grow academically, socially, and emotionally. In order for this to happen, it is important that we establish an environment that allows scholars to grow. It is our goal to create an atmosphere of learning by setting clear expectations and directly teaching scholars about those expectations.

Our plan is based on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We have a team of staff and parents that meets monthly to go over the referral data and make changes where needed. Our plan is based upon six components. They are as follows:

*Cool Tools:  Lesson plans used to teach the scholars appropriate behavioral expectations.

*Cool Tool Assemblies:  Assemblies where the Cool Tools are taught to scholars.

*Bus Bucks:  Bucks scholars can earn for proper behavior on the bus. Drivers give these out to scholars.

*Bulldog Bucks:  Slips earned by scholars for modeling appropriate behavior.

* Pawmart Store Coins:  These are coins scholars can earn from staff members. The coins can be used to purchase items from the Pawmart Store.

*Office Referral Slips:  Referral slips are written by staff when a scholar does not display appropriate behavior.

Tier Two Interventions

All schools in Crete-Monee School District 201U develop and implement school-wide systems to promote positive student behavior. As part of that process, teams meet monthly to review school, grade level, and individual scholar behavior data. If a scholar's behavior data indicates that they may require more support, we will provide it in the form of Tier 2 interventions. These interventions are check-in-check-out (CICO), Social Academic Instructional Groups (SAIG), and brief behavior plans.

Check-in-Check-out (CICO) - The goal of CICO is to provide behavioral and academic supports to scholars. This daily intervention will provide scholars with regular reminders and feedback so he/she can remember to follow Balmoral behavior expectations at all times. The scholar's teacher will rate his/her behavior according to a daily behavior progress report. The scholar's in this program are provided with incentives for positive behavior.

SAIG - These are skill-building groups used to support scholars in the school environment. There are three types of skills-building groups. 1) Pro-social skills (replacement behaviors for avoidance, withdrawal, etc.) Friendship skills/Social Awareness/Relationship building 2) Problem-solving skills (replacement behaviors for fighting, arguing, etc. ) Conflict Resolution skills/Anger Management skills/Self Management 3) Academic Behavior skills (replacement behaviors for getting out of seat, poor study habits, talking out during instruction, etc) Study/Organizational Skills/Focus/Self-Management skills/Responsible Decision- Making Skills.

Brief Behavior Plan - The goal is to meet as a team and develop a plan to support individual scholars. The plans are based on scholars’ areas of need. It focuses on one area of concern and it is completed after we have used the above interventions first.
