Cool Tools are lesson plans used to teach the scholars appropriate behavorial expectations of Balmoral Elementary. These Cool Tools are taught at school-wide assemblies and in their classrooms. Posters with the Cool Tools on them are posted throughout the school as a reminder for scholars as to appropriate behaviors.
Our Cool Tools are as follows:
1.) Tone and Talk: The purpose is to encourage respectful communication within verbal interactions between scholars
and adults and scholars and scholars. It is also to remember when speaking, that it is not always what we are saying but also how we are saying it.
2.) Think Before You Speak: The purpose is to encourage respectful communication within verbal interactions between scholars
and adults and scholars and school. The purpose is also to remember to use kind words when speaking.
3.) Step Up: The purpose is to practice what a scholar should do when he/she hears or sees another student
bullying a classmate. It is to also teach respect for others.
4.) Stop, Breathe, Leave: The purpose is to teach scholars to stop inappropriate behavior, breathe and count to three, and to walk away.
5.) Ride with Pride: The purpose is to identify ways in which student behavior affects bus safety and to ensure students understand WHY bus safety is important.
6.) SWAT: If you are not being treated with respect, tell the person to STOP, then WALK AWAY. If the behavior continues, TALK immediately to an adult.
7.) OBEY is the WAY: The purpose is to reduce the amount of scholars being defiant in the classroom; including when with guest teachers and other staff members.
8.) Keep Your PAWS to Yourself: The purpose is to practice being respectful to others and to teach scholars that there are other ways to solve problems without having to physically or verbally fight.
